Nalhati Municipality Election Result 2017 Live Vote Counting News & Update: The votes for Nalhati election will be counted today, August 16, in Birbhum district. The counting of the Nalhati election votes will begin at 8 AM. The election to 16 wards of Nalhati in Birbhum district took place on August 13, amid tight security. Nalhati went to polls along with six other urban local bodies on August 13. We will be updating live on Nalhati election, stay with us.

The main political parties which fought in the Nalhati election are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Indian National Congress (INC). Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has fielded candidates in all the 16 wards/seats and so has BJP. CPI(M) has fielded five candidates, while Congress has fielded eight in the 16 wards. According to State Election Commission sources, till 3 PM, the voting percentage recorded at Nalhati was 75.5 per cent.

The election to the seven urban local bodies saw violence and booth capturing. Some of the major parties demanded cancellation of the election to the seven urban local bodies, alleging widespread violence and booth-capturing by Trinamool Congress workers. However, the TMC denied having any role in the poll violence. Demanding fresh election, State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said, “We demand that fresh elections are held after the deployment of central forces. We do not demand the SEC’s removal as that will not solve the matter as he is under the state government.”

The clashes were reported between various groups at Durgapur in West Burdwan district since the early morning before the polling began. Violence was also reported from various wards of Haldia and Panskura in East Midnapore district. Following which, the Congress party members demanded the removal of State Election Commissioner (SEC) AK Singh, and staged a sit-in outside the State Election Commission office here.
