Varanasi Nagar Nigam Election Result 2017 | Ward Wise Winner Candidate List: Counting of votes for the Varanasi Nagar Nigam Elections 2017 is underway. Voting for the Varanasi Municipal Corporation took place on November 26 in the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Urban Local Body Elections 2017 (UP Nagar Nikay Chunav). (Click here to get the results for Varanasi Nagar Nigam in Hindi) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won the mayoral election on Varanasi Municipal Corporation in 2012. Ram Gopal Mohle is the Mayor of Varanasi.

The Varanasi Nagar Nigam recorded a voter turnout of 43.8 per cent even as the district Varanasi recorded 44.39 per cent voting this year.  Varanasi, being the Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, holds special significance for the BJP. The party has fielded Mridula for the Mayoral post this year. Other candidates in the fray are Shalini of the Congress and Sadhana Gupta of the Samajwadi Party.

After initial rounds of counting in the civic polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to sweep the elections. The Saffron party was leading on 70 out of 198 councils whereas the arch-rival Samajwadi Party (SP) is likely to win 22 councils. Congress continued its abysmal performance. The grand old party was leading on 4 municipal corporations.

Counting of ballots polled in three phases on November 22, 26 and 29 was on under tight security cover and CCTV surveillance at 334 centres at district and tehsil headquarters. The final results are expected by this evening. Results will be communicated to the candidates through SMS on their registered mobile numbers.
